- If your Outlook application is currently running, make sure that it is closed.
- Locate and run the Inbox Repair Tool. Navigate to Programs Files in your computer and open the folder titled Microsoft Office followed by OFFICE12.
- Locate the file titled Scanpst.exe in the OFFICE12 folder and double-click on it to run the tool.
- When the Inbox Repair Tool is loaded and ready to operate, browse and locate the affected PST files in your computer. Press the button titled Browse to navigate to the location where PST files are stored in your computer.
- After locating the PST files, press the button titled Start. The inbox repair tool will now start scanning your PST files for errors. Upon finding the errors, you will be prompted about them. Press the Repair button to continue.
- Once the repair process is over, launch your Outlook application and navigate to Go>Folder List>Lost and Found.
- You would find all the files that have been repaired by the Inbox Repair Tool in the Lost and Found folder.
- Before exiting the Outlook application, create a new PST file. For this, go to the File option and select New followed by Outlook Data File. Choose .pst (Office Outlook Personal Folders File).
- After pressing OK, name the file and click OK to proceed.
- Copy all the items in the Lost and Found folder and paste them in to the new PST file folder you have created.
