Many a times, you may find issues in transferring the Outlook email settings to your laptop. This is because sometimes while transferring, some error messages would pop up, hindering the process. According to Microsoft technical support, a user needs to transfer six main Outlook setting files as well while transferring the email application to a different device.
It is advised to copy these files onto a flash drive, and then import them into your laptop. While you export the files, ensure that you have created a backup of the data you would like to access on your laptop. The laptop that you would be using should also comprise of Outlook or another Windows email program installed, in order to import the PST or personal storage tables files.
Take the following steps to transfer Outlook email account settings to your laptop:

- The primary step involves creating a new folder on your desktop to store your Outlook backup files. Now, open Outlook, click on the File menu, then Import and Export, followed by Export a File.
- After creating the backup of the files, you need to select account settings from the options Outcmd.dat, Profile Name.fav, Profile Name.htm, Profile Name.rtf, Profile Name.txt and Normal.dot.
- Now, choose each file separately, and export it. To export the files, click on Next, followed by Browse, and then select your Outlook backup folder as the export destination.
- Now, you need to repeat this process to export all the files. Now, launch the Outlook backup folder on your desktop, and save it to a USB flash drive once all these files appear. Meanwhile, if you have any issues, you can also contact technical support to know more about the Outlook setting.
- In the next step, you need to use the flash drive to transfer the files to the laptop. After inserting the flash drive, select the Open folder to view files option in the AutoPlay window, and then copy the files to the desktop.
- Now, you need to open Outlook on your laptop, and click on File, Import and Export and then Import from another program or file.
- You need to select the file type from the menu, and import each file separately onto your laptop.
