Procedure To Setup A POP Or IMAP Email Account In Microsoft Outlook

This article is specifically written to explain the procedure of setting up a POP or IMAP email account in Microsoft Outlook. Microsoft Outlook is the popular email client that has many features to make your emailing experience better and act also as a personal information manager. The Outlook setting instructions are simple and have been designed for normal to advanced users.
 
In case you want to set up a POP3 or IMAP email account in MS Outlook but do not know how, then this article is especially for you. Microsoft Outlook has been designed to work with most of the internet email server types like POP, IMAP, HTTP, Microsoft Exchange, or other 3rd party servers to send or receive emails and many other functions. You need to set up your email account in case you want to use any of these server types. Here are some instructions that will help you setup your email account:

Outlook setting instructions:
  • Initially, launch Outlook and then click on the ‘File’ tab, click on Info, select Account Settings, and then again choose ‘Account Settings’ from the drop down list. After that when the ‘Account Settings’ window opens up, click on the ‘E-mail’ tab, and select ‘New’ and click on ‘Email Account’, and then click on the ‘Next’ button.
  • You need to click to choose the box next to ‘Manually configure server settings or additional server types’ and then click on the ‘Next’ button. In the next dialog box, select Internet ‘E-Mail’ and then click on ‘Next’. In the ‘Internet E-mail Settings’ window, type your name and email address under the ‘User Information’, then select ‘Account Type’ as ‘POP3/IMAP’ etcetera from the drop down menu, and then enter incoming and outgoing mail server information in the respective fields.
  • Then within the ‘Logon Information’ heading, type your user name (your email address here) and the password in the respective fields.
  • After that, click on the box 'Remember password' in order to make the ‘Outlook’ remember your password whenever you login.
  • Then click on the ‘More Settings’ button and then click on the ‘Next’ button. Click on the ‘Outgoing Server’ tab, select ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’, and also select ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server’. Then click on the ‘OK’ button.
  • After that, click on the ‘Test Account Settings’ button to test your email settings. Then click on ‘Close’ when test settings return a successful message, click on ‘Next’ button, and then click on the ‘Finish’ button. 
Now you have successful set up an email account in Outlook
